Name Ayumo Tsukino
-
Age 214 (looks 21)
-
Gender Male
-
Personality Ayumo is quite withdrawn. He tends to keep others at arms length if possible, and has very few real friends. He always has a grumpy demeanour, and constantly grumbles complaints about anything that strikes him at the time. This grouchiness combined with his drawn expression makes him seem a lot older than he actually is. There is no recollection of anyone ever having seen him crack a smile, though he is not without humour. He has a dry, sarcastic wit which he uses to berate others and deliver his complaints in as sharp a way as possible. He is quite insensitive, not caring for others’ feelings. That said he feels a great sense of responsibility to his allies. He would never let his side down in a fight and would battle courageously for the Gotei 13 at a single command. He is dedicated to his role as a Shinigami, and his goal is to rise to the level of Vice-Captain to serve directly under one of the thirteen leaders. His rocky confidence gives those fighting alongside him a reassuring feeling.
Ayumo wasn’t always a grumpy, sharp tongued person. In his days at the Spiritual Arts Academy, and for a while after that, he was a loud, flamboyant character, the centre of the crowd, as it were. At this time he had many friends and was a popular personality. However his attitude completely changed when he returned from a prolonged mission which took him unexpectedly to Heuco Mundo. He has never spoken to anybody about what he experienced there. Nobody has yet dared to ask, as the haunted look in his eyes tells all those around him that he has no will to relive the story.
Although he prefers to delve into his work than spend time moping around, when he does have spare time he takes long walks around Soul Society, as though keeping a look out for anything that may be going wrong. When he wakes during the night, which is a common occurrence, he seems edgy and jumpy, and clutches his Zanpakuto near as though expecting to be attacked at any moment. When day breaks, this spell of panic fades and he shrugs off any questions about what was wrong during the night.
-
Appearance Ayumo once had a very handsome and youthful face, but after what must have been an unfortunate experience during a mission, his features became drawn and weary. His eyes seem deepset into his skull, his face pale. His eyes even seem a lighter shade of steely grey than they once were, and sometimes they slide out of focus, as though he isn’t quite seeing things clearly. His once jet-black hair has become greyed at the tips and roots.
He is slim but quite muscular, standing at around 5’10’’, and wears the regular Shinigami uniform of a black kimono, black hakama, sandals and a white belt. He keeps his Zanpakuto at his belt at all times in its scabbard, and when standing, rests his left hand below the cross guard, as though ready to draw it immediately if he needs to.
-
Zanpakuto Spirit Gelus’ appearance greatly resembles that of a clown. It is a well rounded and short man with stubby arms and legs. He has a full set of clown make up over his face, with a large round red nose, white complexion and wide red smile which contrasts to his actually quite depressed expression underneath. His head is bald on top and then sprouts into a large hairdo of various bright colours around the back and sides. He wears a bright yellow jumpsuit with red polka dots all over it, and a black belt with a plastic gold buckle. He has massive feet with shiny red shoes. His fingers extend into long white spikes as opposed to just having nails. He also has small, bright green, feathered wings that can not actually fly. At the most he manages to hover a few inches off the ground and then his body weight pulls him back down again. Finally, he always carries a long iron chain which somehow floats up into the air and ends in a large, non-descript black ball. The chain also has many short spikes that extend from the sides, cutting into his hand and making it bleed profusely. The overall effect of this object is that it looks to be a balloon made up of a spiky chain and ball instead of a length of string and plastic balloon. If he ever opens his hand to let go of the balloon, blood projects out in an over-the-top eruption from his palm.
Although his appearance is that of a clown, his personality is quite subdued and depressed. He rarely speaks, and when he does he stutters or mumbles. He hides in the corners of Ayumo’s inner world, and keeps to himself. When anybody approaches him he shakes in fear, and he also cries a lot, in quiet sobs. He acts as though he is imprisoned and mistreated or abused.
Ayumo has achieved spirit materialization and is undergoing training to try and reach Bankai.
-
Sealed Zanpakuto A regular katana, with a silver blade, and the hilt his bound tightly with black leather. The cross guard is thick and triangular and bronze in colour, as is the pommel of the hilt. The scabbard is black with a slight blue tint.
-
Shikai Name: Gelus
-
Release Phrase “Cackle, Gelus.”
-
Shikai Description The blade of his katana triples in length and changes to become a long metal chain. The tip of the blade remains on top of the last link in the chain. The hilt of the Zanpakuto remains exactly the same.

Shikai Abilities
1. (Unnamed): in Shikai form, the chain is used to strangle or subdue an enemy, wrapping around the neck, arms, legs or chest before tightening to crush bones underneath. The effect is that an enemy is either contained or crushed under the pressure of the tightening chains.
2. Red Reveal One: a short but razor-sharp blade extends from either side of every link in the chain, creating a long and flexible blade on two sides. The effect is that the Zanpakuto can now be used to slice and cut as opposed to a simple whip as before. When combined with the unnamed ability to wrap around an enemy, it can wrap around them and then extend the blades, slicing into them before ripping away.
3. Red Reveal Two: Used after Red Reveal One. The links in the chain all break off from each other and separate into many different floating pieces, revealing Gelus’ true nature as a projectile type Zanpakuto. The effect is that the multiple blades can then move individually through the air, mentally controlled by Ayumo, and attack an enemy all together or separately, covering multiple angles to overwhelm an opponent. It is hard to defend against these blades due to their speed and size. Once in this state, they can withdraw the blades, but cannot form back into the complete chain. It can either stay in this form, or reform into Gelus’ sealed form.
The drawback to his Shikai’s abilities is that in its projectile form after activating Red Reveal Two, Ayumo needs to focus and keep concentration to effectively use the blade fragments. If he loses his concentration, one of two things can happen. Firstly, the links may all simply drop to the floor and he would have to muster up his focus to use them again. The other likelihood is that, if shocked or stunned whilst controlling the links, they will explode outward, in every direction, smash uncontrollably into anything they hit and stay there. Although this can sometimes double as an effective attack, it is also dangerous for his allies and for Ayumo himself, and is hard to recover from.

Zanjutsu: Ayumo is an accomplished swordsman, well versed in the art of fighting with his Zanpakuto. Even when it is in its sealed state, Ayumo can utilize the katana expertly.
Hakuda: Ayumo is efficient in hand-to-hand combat, able to face opponents of the same strength as himself or multiple ones of lower strength at once.
Ho-ho: Ayumo is able to use flash-steps at the average level for a Shinigami, and is able to keep up with his team mates.
Kido: This is Ayumo’s worst subject, as his Kido has always been weaker than average. Although he managed to pass the graduation at the Spiritual Arts Academy, he refrains from using Kido spells out on the field, instead relying on his skills as a swordsman.

History Ayumo Tsukino’s parents were both Shinigami, and so it wasn’t surprising that he was born with a strong spiritual pressure. He was raised in Sereitei, and as soon as he reached the correct age, he was entered into the Spiritual Arts Academy to learn the ways of the Shinigami as his parents had before him.
Once there, he showed great promise, entering into the top class for his skills with Zanjutsu and Hakuda. These skills made him well known in the class but instead of being intimidated, those around him soon realized that he was very approachable. In fact it wasn’t long before he was surrounded by a group of friends. Although he spent much time hanging around with these friends, he still made sure to keep ahead of his studies as he was aware of his weakness in Kido and even from that time knew what he wanted to do. He planned to rise through the ranks of the Gotei 13 when he graduated and become a Vice-Captain. He felt that it was within himself to do so, and was encouraged by the words of his friends who also believed in his abilities.
Ayumo’s mother was killed by a huge Hollow during a mission to Earth whilst Ayumo was still attending the Academy. The news hit him hard and he grieved for a long time, but with the support of those around him and his studies to concentrate on, he soon moved on, accepting the death.
When the time came to graduate from the Academy, he left with great results alongside his band of friends and together they joined the Squads of the Gotei 13 to start at the bottom as rank-and-file soldiers. Realizing that his time had arrived to show his abilities, he strived harder than ever, claiming as many missions as possible to get into the eyes of the Captains. This tactic was beginning to work as he moved up to a seated position.
However, one night everything changed. He was sent with a team of Shinigami on a mission to Earth where an irregular number of Hollows had been gathering of late. He happily accepted the mission. When the team arrived they immediately realized that they were in way over their heads. The Hollows that had gathered in the town were numbering almost into one hundred. The rest of the group realized it would be suicide to try and take them on and began to reatreat. Ayumo, however, saw his chance for glory- if he was able to lead the team to victory over so many enemies, he would surely be credited by the Captains.
His team mates yelled after him to stop, but Ayumo ran into the battle, slicing away as fast as he could to keep up with the tide of monsters which began to realize his presence and move in. Before long and despite the intervention of his team, Ayumo sustained injuries to his left arm and both of his legs and began to realize that he’d made a grave mistake. He gave the signal to retreat and the team bolted, but Ayumo was captured and taken via garganta into Heaco Mundo by the Hollow who seemed to be in charge. His team saw him disappear along with several Hollows, but were powerless to help as the window closed behind them.
Ayumo Tsukino was considered to be dead by Soul Society when he failed to resurface after three weeks. His friends and team mates mourned his passing.
Then, out of nowhere, he reappeared. He stumbled into Sereitei four weeks after his disappearance, battered, bruised and looking about thirty years older than he had before. He was deeply disturbed by whatever it was that had happened in Heuco Mundo, and it changed his entire attitude. Even whilst he was being nursed back to health by Squad Four, he was enraged, aggressive and shunned the company of his friends. He was edgy and thrashed violently about in the night due to nightmares.
When talk began of throwing Ayumo into the Maggots Nest as a danger to Soul Society, he seemed to change again. He became less aggressive, no longer yelling and raving and attacking Shinigami on sight. He was nothing like his old self – he was now grumpy and serious – but he was let off the hook by Soul Society and resumed his duties, still clinging to his goal of reaching the Vice-Captain level.
Three years have passed since these events. Ayumo’s attitude has not improved – he is still detatched and grim – but he is once again an esteemed member of Soul Society, and talks have begun about upgrading him to Vice-Captain rank, as he had always dreamed.
